Cole ready to make impact at UCLA
A nice feature on Rivals.com about UCLA baseball's Gerrit Cole. Here's a quote from John Savage regarding Cole:
""One of the biggest things I notice about Gerrit is how great of a teammate he will be," Savage said. "He's talked about Omaha and making this program one of the nation's elite. Not only is he developing as a player, he's doing the same as a person. He's now a big part of this program."
Alex Stepheson is headed to USC basketball team
I don't know whether to be happy, sad, discontent or just shrug. He will seek a waiver to play immediately.

Former UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford signed by Giants
In addition to signing third-rounder Roger Kieschnick on Wednesday, the Giants also inked fourth-rounder Brandon Crawford. The UCLA shortstop, a projected first-rounder before a disappointing spring, received a $375,000 bonus, matching the fourth-highest in the fourth round this year.

Complete CFN preseason rankings, 1-119
Bruins come in at number 29 (probably the highest ranking I have seen out of any preseason list) with the caveats about huge questions at QB, OL and a "leaky" secondary. With this unit if the Bruins finish as one of the 30 best teams in the country, Neuheisel should be in the running of Pac-10 COY. GO BRUINS.

Bruin Kara Lang scores a goal at Olympics
UCLA's Kara Lang, playing for Canada, scored a goal in Canada's 2-1 win over Argentina early this morning. It was the first game at the Olympics (soccer always starts a few days before every other sport).
I thought that was kind of cool.
Also, to keep you in suspense, I'm working on a giant schedule and list of when every Bruin is competing at the Olympics. I'll post it here in the fanposts and at my own blog when I'm done (hopefully later today).

Measurements From The Acosta Center
We have had some discussion re. off season workouts today. UCLA just happened to release some data from our player's off season workouts. Click on the link above to take a look and let us know what you know. Speaking just for me, I will wait to see how this translates into a productive camp and then the performance on Saturdays. GO BRUINS.

2009 UCLA Baseball Schedule
The Bruins released their entire 2009 schedule today and it looks exactly how we expected it to look. After having their schedule ranked #1 in 2006, #3 in 2007 and #2 in 2008, it's no surprise another brutal schedule (and arguably their toughest ever) is on tap for '09.

All UCLA non conference opponents ranked in USA Today Coach's Poll: Tenn (18), BYU (17), FSU (25)
The first ESPN/USA Today Coach's Poll is out. All of UCLA's non conference opponents are ranked. BYU (17) is ranked higher than Tennessee (18). Fresno State is number 25. This ranking doesn't help those Dorrellistas and Neu haters who will try to paint UCLA losses to these teams as being "embarrassing." Georgia is number 1. SuC is number 2. ASU (16) and Oregon (20) are the two other Pac-10 teams. Bruins received 3 votes (number 46).
